Neck Rejuvenation

Whilst the focus for most people is on their face, the neck is also an area that will show the effects of sun damage and skin ageing and can benefit from many of the skin rejuvenation treatments applicable to the face. The neck is actually quite vulnerable to sun damage as people whilst they might use sunscreen on the face often forget the neck. In addition, there are also a number of concerns particular to the neck that develop as we get older and can be effectively treated non-surgically. These include Double Chins, thickening of the muscles at the front of the neck (Platysmal bands) and a particular skin condition where there is mixture of redness and pigmentation at the sides of the neck (Poikiloderma).

How it works

Different approaches are needed for different concerns:

  • Sun Damage: The choice of which laser or light source for neck rejuvenation will depend on the nature and severity of the damage. We have a range of systems, which enables us to tailor treatment to individual requirements. When treating the neck area with lasers, it needs to be appreciated that neck skin is different from facial skin. Neck skin is thinner and lacks as many structures such as sweat glands and hair follicles, which are important in skin healing. Subsequently, care has to be taken when treating the neck as there is a greater risk of reaction and scarring. For neck rejuvenation shorter and less aggressive treatment protocols are used with multiple lower power sessions, and there is a need to understand that results will be slower.
  • Double Chins: The best results to treat the accumulation of fat under the chin non-surgically (permanently and safely) is to use a series of Double Chin injections containing a purified bile acid called deoxycholic acid. Fat freezing and heating devices can also be used.
  • Platysmal bands: These thick bands at the front of the neck are treated using the same product used for Anti-wrinkle treatments.
  • Fine Wrinkling: This can be improved with treatments including the Infini radiofrequency microneedling device and also in certain patients PRP is worth considering.
