Cosmetic PRP

Supercharge your skin’s anti-ageing abilities.

As we age, the ability of our tissue to heal itself slows. Thanks to the recent incorporation of PRP into cosmetic medicine, we can stimulate tissue healing and improve skin texture, tone, fine lines and dry skin. PRP is an injectable treatment that uses only cells from your own body, making it a safe and uncomplicated procedure.

Cosmetic PRP: Our Approach

Our Approach

We recognise PRP as a safe treatment option and for the right patient is well worth considering but it is not for everyone. To get great results with PRP the key to our approach is firstly patient selection and secondly realistic expectations. Some patients will do much better with PRP than others and identifying who will do well is very important. Many claims are made regarding the benefits of PRP and names such as the “Vampire Facelift” are used by some clinics but whilst PRP has good benefits it will not give you a dramatic facelift type effect.

About the condition

Your body has natural healing abilities which kick in when you cut yourself or tear a muscle. Everyday your skin cells use these healing abilities to combat the effects of sun damage and ageing, but as we age, these processes aren’t as effective as they used to be. That’s where PRP comes in.

Your body’s platelets are important cells required for natural healing; they’re vital for blood clotting and for regenerating damaged tissues. Normally, your blood contains around 6% platelets, but PRP therapy uses a much more concentrated preparation of your platelets, nearly 90%.

Cosmetic PRP: About The Condition

How it works

PRP injections work to supercharge your body’s healing process by supplying a high concentration of the building blocks needed for cell rebuilding. This high concentration can work to combat fine lines, scars, wrinkles, dull and dry skin, as well as perfectly complementing other cosmetic medical treatments such as dermal fillers.

PRP treatment involves taking 20 mls of blood from your arm prior to your treatment (just like a blood test). We then take this blood and spin it in our state-of-the-art centrifuge. The plasma then rises to the top and we harvest this portion, mixing it with calcium to enhance the release of growth factors. We can inject PRP into deep or superficial areas of the body to enhance healing and anti-ageing processes.

PRP is very safe, and has been a popular sports medicine procedure to stimulate healing for a number of years. Not only is PRP very effective, the injections involved in PRP come from your own blood cells, making it one of the safest cosmetic injection treatments.

PRP injections are also minimally invasive and yield very effective, natural looking results without the need for general anaesthetic.

It is important before PRP to have healthy platelets so defer treatment if you have a fever or illness in the 2 weeks before treatment.

To minimise bruising 10 days before treatment stop taking over the counter medications and supplements that can increase bruising such as Aspirin, Anti-inflammatories, Garlic, Fish Oil and Vitamin E. Avoid strenuous workouts and excess alcohol 48 hours before PRP treatment.

PRP is known as a safe treatment with few side effects. Swelling and bruising is expected around injection sites, so using an ice pack post-treatment can be beneficial. It’s common for bruising and swelling to last for a few days.
