Over the past 20 years, our clinic has developed a lot of experience in treating patients with an Asian background. We are familiar with the unique challenges faced by Asian complexions and offer specialised treatments. These are designed to help patients with Asian skin achieve the best results as quickly as possible with minimal downtime.

Asian skin is prone to acne as it has larger sebaceous glands and a thicker surface layer of skin. It also responds to trauma with higher rates of inflammatory pigmentation and scarring and is more prone to pigmentation from sun exposure. Because Asian skin experiences low levels of wrinkling and sagging as it ages, it requires low doses of wrinkle and dermal treatments. A unique concern for many patients from an Asian background is their facial shape.

For Asian skin we tailor programs to treat specific concerns:

Acne: We offer clients a specialised acne program based on the root cause and severity of skin inflammation.
Acne scarring: The best treatment for most acne scarring in Asian skin is the Infini, which combines fractional micro-needling with radiofrequency energy. Significant improvement can be achieved with a series of several treatments with only minor redness after treatment.
Pigmentation: We have a number of options and recommend treatments based on the depth of the pigment and skin sensitivity. Topical prescription creams may be all that’s required. The Picotoning procedure is particularly suited to Asian type skin as are the BBL and FRAXEL systems.
Wrinkles: The side of the eye area is a common concern for many Asians and a very common request is to treat crow’s feet with Anti-Wrinkle treatments.
Dark circles and lines: The under eye area is a concern in patients of Asian background because of dark circles and/or fine lines. Eye rejuvenation procedures can help improve this area significantly.
Jaw Shaping: Many Asians are concerned by their Jaw shape. The typical concern is the bulkiness at the angle of the jaw. This can be improved non-surgically using the same products used to treat wrinkles.

Preparation

It depends on the procedure. Skin treatments usually require no specific skin prep but acne, scarring and pigmentation treatments do require appropriate skin preparation for both the best results and least reaction.

Aftercare

Irrespective of the condition we are treating we advise patients of Asian background to use a daily broad spectrum sunscreen.
