  • Laser hair removal is the most effective method of hair removal available.
  • Response varies between people and varies in the same person between different body areas
  • Most common areas treated in women are face, underarm, bikini line and legs. Most common areas treated in men are back, shoulders, upper arms and chest.
  • All skin types can be treated but you should not be sun tanned at the time of treatment.
  • Laser hair removal works best on pigmented hair. Blonde, grey and red hairs do not respond as well.

Unwanted hair is a problem for many men and women. Advances in laser technology have resulted in the development of Lasers as a safe, fast, gentle and effective method of hair removal. At the Collins Cosmetic Clinic we have a range of hair removal lasers, allowing us to optimise treatment by selecting the most appropriate laser for your hair type, skin colour and skin sensitivity.

Is the treatment permanent?

There is no doubt laser hair removal is the most effective method of hair removal available. The majority of patients have a significant reduction in hair growth in the treated area within 4-6 treatments. However response to laser hair removal varies considerably both between people and in the same person between areas. It is possible that some patients will require follow up treatments. Darker hair and lighter skin predict a better result however some people will have hair roots that are situated much deeper and are more resistant to treatment. Other patients may have hormonal factors stimulating hair growth and these patients may require maintenance treatment.

Can all types of hair be treated?

Laser hair removal works best on pigmented hair. Blonde, grey and red hair colours do not usually respond as well.

Can all skin types be treated?

We can treat all skin types however it is preferable that the area to be treated should not be recently suntanned at the time of treatment as you may get more skin reaction.

Can all areas of the body be treated?

We do not treat under the eyebrow as it is too close to the eyes. However, all other areas of the body can be treated. The most common areas treated in women include the face, underarms, bikini line and legs, and in men the back, shoulders, upper arms and chest.

How many treatments are necessary?

This will vary with the area treated, your type of hair and the level of improvement you require. The majority of patients have a significant reduction in hair growth in the treated area within 4 to 6 treatments. However, certain patients may require more treatments particularly those with coarse or light hair. It is important to realise that response to laser hair removal varies considerably between people and in the same person between different body areas. For example, underarm and bikini line areas tend to be very responsive whereas facial areas are more likely to need ongoing treatments.
